Assalam-u-Alaikum,
Muharram is the first month of Muslims’ lunar Hijri Calendar. It is one of the four sanctified months according to the Holy Quran and Sunnah. The blessings of this month are verified through the authentic Ahadith. However, some misconceptions and legends have managed to find their way in our society regarding Muharram and the blessed day of Ashura.
It is very important for us to clarify the misconceptions and impart the authentic knowledge to our families. You are encouraged to practice some of the following at home with your children.

Fast on the day of Ashura: Each fast during this month has merit, yet the 10th day of Muharram is the most sacred among all its days. The day is named ‘Ashura’. It is Sunnah to fast on this day.

Reflect on the past life, be thankful for all the blessings and taufeeq of good deeds, repent for the misdeeds and plan to overcome one bad habit at least
